Ryan Broyles, Norman high standout and one of three true freshmen that OU staff had indicated might play this season, was arrested Friday morning for allegedly stealing gasoline from a local gas station. Stoops has suspended Broyles indefinitely.
While many consider this to be yet another black rye on the Sooners’ reputation, I think this is a positive. Let’s look back into Sooner lore to see how this situation would have been handled in the past…
1985 – player car is low on fuel, calls booster who delivers new car with full tank.
1989 – player’s car is low on fuel, shoots fellow player who’s trying to raise money by cutting hair.
2004 – player’s car is low on fuel, reports false hours to employer to raise money to buy gas.
2007 – player’s car is low on fuel, player steals gas.
Folks, this is progress! The compliance efforts are working.
